Class Description

Photoshop CS4 Level 2: Advanced and New CS4 Features is for those who want to take their Photoshop skills to the next level. Alpha channels, professional retouching techniques, nondestructive filtering and more will be covered. In addition, we will cover the advanced features of Photoshop CS4, such as Device Central, Zoomify, Refine Edge, and more. Please contact us regarding pricing and availability.

New CS4 Features

  • The new interface and standarization between the CS4 family
  • Using the new Applicaiton bar and Control panel and how these differ from the old Options bar
  • Working with the tabbed windows and cycling through, changing the order, and using the Application frame view
  • Utilizing the Workspace switcher for viewing multiple images
  • Managing the new CS4 Panels
  • Navigation and Open GL
  • Rotating views without rotating the canvas

Using Bridge and Device Central

  • Incorporating Metadata that transcends across all Adobe CS4 applications
  • Using the Bridge Center to buy stock photos & saving files in a group
  • Use stacks to organize multiple versions of the same file, group related files, or gather files to send to Photoshop CS4 or Illustrator CS4 for batch processing.

  • Working extensively with the Healing Brush, Spot Healing Brush and Patch tools

  • Advanced Adjustment Layer techniques using the new CS4 Adjustments panel
  • Working with the new Vibrance Adjustment layer from Camera Raw to minimize clipping of blues and greens

Actions and Batch Processing

  • Introduction to the Actions panel & Batch Processing

  • Create Droplets to automatically apply an action when an image is dragged upon it


Ascend Training will be offering Adobe CS5 classes as soon as the Creative Suite 5 is released. Our Adobe Photoshop CS5 class outline will be similar to this Photoshop CS4 outline in format, but including the new Adobe Photoshop CS5 features and workflows. Students taking this class will be eligible to use their 6 month retake in version CS5 for the cost of the new book. Ascend Training has no information regarding a release date for Adobe Photoshop CS5, or any other upgrades.
