Changes in How Adobe Upgrades Software 2012 is going to be a radically different story when it comes to upgrading. In the past, we have "bought" the software and chose to upgrade or not. Adobe had offered discount pricing up to 2 versions backwards, so there wasn't a huge incentive to upgrade. There will now be 2 options of how to obtain software.

 

 

Traditional Adobe Licensing Model

If you choose to continue to "buy" The Creative Suite, Adobe will enable users to upgrade ONE VERSION backwards. For example, those using CS4 will not be eligible to upgrade to CS6. Those using CS5 and CS5.5 will be eligible for upgrade pricing. You will be able to buy The Creative Suite software and the new Touch Apps separately.

Adobe is offering a 20% discount off CS5.5 until March of 2012. This is important because Adobe is changing their upgrade policy for all future upgrades of their products.

Adobe Creative Cloud Licensing Model

This Creative Cloud option will allow users to "rent" the software and pay a monthly cost, 5% to 7.5% of the regular cost per month, to use it. You also will have access to the new Adobe Touch Apps, Muse and Edge, Typekit, and Adobe Cloud storage. In addition, Cloud users receive Digital Publishing Suite for delivering interactive publications on tablets.

These apps will still be installed on your computer, not in the cloud.

A Senior Adobe VP was quoted that access to ALL Adobe apps (including Master Collection and Touch Apps) will cost $49.99 per month for individuals and $69.99 per month per seat for workgroups.

This option will be advantageous to those that don't want to shell out a large amount of money at once, or want to turn off their membership for a period of time.
